April Hemmes last week received an award that added another title to her prolific agricultural career – “trailblazer.”
The Hampton crop farmer was honored with the inaugural Executive Women in Agriculture Trailblazer Award, given to a female producer that demonstrates leadership, innovation and advocacy in an agricultural field. She received the distinction at Top Producer’s 2019 Executive Women in Agriculture Conference in Chicago on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Hemmes said she was humbled by the award as it represents the passion with which women in agriculture tackle their trade.
“I kind of said that when I talk to women, that we don’t do what we do to get awards,” she said. “We work in agriculture because we love it and it’s a passion.”
